Today I got hold of the 20th year anniversary edition of Famous Blue Raincoat and could not believe my luck. I played it again and was surprised to find that it actually brought tears of joy to my eyes (a new experience for me) and I have listened to quite a few songs in my lifetime. So I must say thank you very much for those moments of pleasure. You (and Leonard) really found your way to my inner heart. --Olaf Hjellum |

People like Jennifer make the words come alive. It was a thrill and treasure to hear her and her wonderfull back up band play under a tent in Calgary as the Summer Solstice Sun moved around to the west side of the open ended tent and flooded the front rows with bright Alberta Sunshine.
Jennifer Warnes demonstrated a musical union with her three piece band which made the songs/stories come alive even more. Thank you Jennifer for coming to our Canadian Rockies Foothills to bring and make your poetic music come alive in front of a living audience as you mentioned on stage.--R S |

I have just recently discovered Prairie Melancholy. The combination of Jennifer's voice and the lyrics is just startling in so many ways and so unbelievably poignant for anyone who has felt both sadness and that feeling of forever love about a relationship. I have listened to many a song in my 59 years of life (many of Jennifer's in the 70s) and am a musician myself, but somehow when one finds a piece so perfect in its lyrics, and its performance, it is wrong not to try to relay that message to its performer. This one is really a piece of art, Jennifer, and if you had never done anything else, you should just be so proud. --Jean Bucher |

I met you on Sunday (June 22, 2008) at the Parkland Solstice Festival after your concert. Thank you very much for this personal sharing of your songs. Sitting in the third row on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, this was the most intimate concert experience I have had, the kind that is really thrilling. My husband and I were thrilled to have such a wonderful afternoon and it's a memory that we'll carry with us as our favorite concert ever! --Karen Schweighardt, Calgary |

I gotta say how knocked out I was with your work backing up Roy Orbison with K.D. Lang, and Bonnie Raitt on the PBS special. To me, you guys were a set of "doo-wah chicks" for the ages, and he will live on forever. Thanks again. --Steve Brennan, Northeast USA |

I just wanted to say that Ms. Warnes' version of "First We Take Manhattan" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Her voice is incredible and adds a huge amount to the feeling and atmosphere of one of the greatest recordings of all time! --Andrew Foote |

Jennifer is a national treasure. Her voice, technique, delivery and choice of material are unsurpassed. She lightens my world when it becomes small, heavy and dark. But she encourages me most because she is loyal to her family, and she honors her friends and colleagues. --Mary Cadney |

Only yesterday did I become aware of the part you played in saving the world from Communism. I well remember the era of your essay and the terrifying wail of those civil defense sirens. So I would like to add my thanks to those expressed by Leonard Cohen. --Peter Banfield |

Hello Jennifer,
I am not one who has a lot (of) music in my collection. I have always preferred to listen to the radio for variety. And I have only had one female singer whom I would always stop what I was doing to hear your songs. I still love "Right Time of the Night" and " I Know a Heartache." Love your voice. (Listening to your Christmas songs as I work) Always a fan. Wishing you all the best. --Ron |

Good lord. The live recording of "Joan of Arc" is the most euphoric cut off of any album I've ever heard. But still, my favorite track (of all time, on any album) is "Song of Bernadette" You are sublime. --Richard Gorelik |

I have yet to catch my breath from the emotion of "Prairie Melancholy"... when here comes this stunning "Famous Blue Raincoat" package. The additional cuts-- I can't believe such beauty has remained hidden away for so many years. I'm so happy you've let them out into the sunshine. Emily Dickinson once wrote: If I feel so cold that no fire will ever warm me, then I know that is poetry. If I feel as if the top of my head was physically taken off, then I know that is poetry. Is there another way to know it? It expresses how Jennifer's singing on the live "Joan of Arc," with her building wave near the song's conclusion, makes me feel... although words can hardly express how deeply I adore her and her artistry. --Mitch Gallob |
